Abby Cook, who is the EMW Aktion Club Advisor, stands with several club members during a recent bowling outing to Lancaster Lanes.

Inspired by clubs in East Aurora and Holland, the area of Elma, Marilla and Wales now has its own branch of an Aktion Club. This club works with the cooperation of local Kiwanis Clubs, and it provides an opportunity for developmentally disabled adults to become more active in their community. The branch is less than a year old, and the club’s founder and advisor, Abby Cook, said that membership for the organization is still increasing.

“Everytime I turn around more people want to join,” Cook said. “We currently have around 50 members.”
