We recently covered concerns raised over the quality of the paint job Erie County highway workers did when they painted the center lines and "fog lines" on Hunters Creek Road. "Like a kindergartener painted them" is the way one resident described them.

It seems the highway markings, intended to help drivers stay where they belong, would net a DWI stop if followed. The whole thing would be funny except that it's a costly error. We understand human error, and the deputy highway commissioner said the driver of the road-striping equipment was new to the operation. What is troubling is that nobody was checking the work and the free-form marking continued. Then, to compound the problem, a crew returned another day to complete job and continued to put down lines that didn't follow the curves in the road. Hard to believe when highway crews always seem to be large enough to provide observation while another member works. This job gives new meaning to "close enough for government work."
