With "Black Friday" just over a week away, it seems the big box stores and the shopping malls are encroaching further and further into Thanksgiving Day with mega sales. We suspect that it won't be too much longer until the sales will begin at noon on Thanksgiving, then in the morning, and then midnight, which will then be topped by Wednesday night early-bird sales on Thanksgiving eve.

While the continuing invasion of commerce into the holiday is often met with disdain in conversations over the coffee cups, chances are many of those objectors, in the privacy of their own sale flyers, could be caught shopping on "T" day. Let's face it, Thanksgiving shoppers were given at least partial dispensation by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who championed the move of the day from the last Thursday in November to the fourth Thursday to encourage economic activity. Given the economy recently, perhaps President Obama will pardon a Walmart shopper (certainly not a Bloomingdale's shopper) instead of the traditional turkey.
