East Aurora’s cross country senior captain Ian Russ put it all out on the course this past weekend and was rewarded with a national qualifying performance as he qualified for the Nike National Championships to be held this weekend in Portland, Ore.

Russ was the overall champion at both ECIC and Section VI competitions and led his squad to team titles in those events, but the real test came this past weekend on the tough Bowdoin Park course, near Poughkeepsie. Russ raced to eighth place, qualifying as the top two teams automatically qualified for nationals as well as the first five individuals who are not on those two teams. Ian joins Scott Anderson, EAHS 2008, and Kenny Vasbinder, EAHS 2015, the 2012 East Aurora girls team, and Sophia Tasselmyer, EAHS 2014, who represented East Aurora at the Nike Nationals in the past.
