Dr. John Newton is the director of the Mandala School, an independent, non-sectarian school for students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The school was established in 2008, shortly after John retired from the East Aurora school district, where he taught fourth and fifth grade from 1990 to 2008.

In the summer of 2010, John began to seek out an expanded space and some of his friends turned his attention towards a hidden and historic gem located at 738 Main St., a Georgian Colonial home built in 1824. After viewing the property, he was sold on the idea of relocating there and has been restoring the property ever since.
